Yep, currently have Verizon but I find that while coverage is great, wow are they pricy. Just curious to know the next best service besides Verizon around Asheville??? Thanks.

T Mobile is here now, not sure how good their coverage is. Doesn't ATT offer cell service here? I use Verizon because of their coverage, I can get a decent signal in the oddest places.

Verizon is 2nd best in the area for coverage. I used to have Sprint, and they were horrible. US Cellular has the best coverage, but Verizon is pretty close.

I would definitely give US Cellular a try. They're a far smaller company than Verizon so they usually don't have the latest, greatest phones, but everybody I've known that's had them has claimed it to be the best coverage out of anybody. They also have free incoming calls on most plans, so that might help you out by having to pay for fewer anytime minutes.

Verizon Wireless has bought out Alltel, so eventually both networks will be one.

On Call: How the Alltel/Verizon merger affects you | Dialed In Podcast - CNET Blogs

Alltel customers in these NC markets will be spun-off to someone other than the Verizon Wireless by the merger:

Hickory NC MSA (CMA 166): Alexander, Burke, Catawba counties

NC RSA 2 (CMA 566): Avery, Caldwell, Mitchell, Watauga, Yancey counties

NC RSA 5 (CMA 569): Anson, Montgomery, Richmond, Scotland counties

I have Verizon, and have far better service almost everywhere than US Cellular. In the far up mountains of like, Ashe County, Alleghany County, and parts of Wilkes county, Verizon is the way to go.

Hubby has the I phone so he has to use AT&T. He hasn't had many dropped calls and even though his internet on the phone is a bit slow it does work fine. We are in FL right now for a few days and his internet on the I phone is so much faster so now he can see the difference.

That's one of the biggest reasons I'll never buy an I phone.
