Having just spent three days in Asheville, I was pleasantly surprised that I never saw anyone talking on the phone while driving. From what I can find, it's illegal to text while driving in North Carolina. Is it also illegal to talk on the phone while driving?
IIRC, hand held cell phone use is legal in NC...
a couple of bills have wandered through the elected geniuses system, but to no avail to my knowledge.
I think there are a couple cities in the east, maybe CH or R-D that have city ords. against handheld.
And, bus drivers and learner/beginning drivers can't use them.
Texting is prohibited, but it has little to no impact on the texters, in my experience...
Everybody here in hillbillyheaven drives around using their handhelds. You must have had a lucky day not seeing anyone using theirs.
GL, mD

I was thinking the same thing, mD. In a little while, I'll pack the dog up for a drive to the park for his daily walk. Along the way we'll see half or more of the drivers with a phone pressed against their ear. Some will almost drive themselves into a mailbox or ditch, others will cross the center line a few times, some will not notice the light has turned green.
We'll probably also see at least two or three to whom devoting their attention to texting is more important than driving.

lol was thinking the same thing. I see people on their cellphones all the time. if there is weird driving in front of me and I take over because i can't stand it anymore, in 99% of the cases it's the cell phone use. texting is illegal, but who cares ? same thing seems to apply to turn signals. seems it is not part of the standard car package here down south.
I was thinking the same thing---we have never experienced so many drivers talking on cell phone while driving as in WNC.
