Just an FYI that this thread is almost four years old -- pretty sure that the OP has made a decision by now .....

Hi Julie. My name is Stephanie. I'm a single mom of a 5 year old girl with albinism and nystagmus and is legally blind. I have to relocate rather quickly as my mother isn't well and is moving in with my brother elsewhere. I'm unable to care for both her AND my daughter. I'm searching for the best "atmosphere" of section 8 housing in Sylva. It's challenging. I saw a few that were on main roads, and with my little one being visually impaired that's probably not the best thing. Can you give me information on it? As well as offices for food stamps, medicaid, and storage to keep our belongings once we arrive? If there is any temporary housing available, we could use it as well please. We are departing Florida August 1st. Thanks so much

Sylva is small. You may have to visit a county office in a nearby city.

The Julie you are referring to posted here one time 12 years ago.

I am so sorry for your difficult situation. Your best bet is to contact the Jackson County Dept. of Social Services.... asap... to see if they can provide help. Here is their website with contact information.... Home-Jackson County Social Services

Wonderful! Thank you so much! I'm not accustomed to these types of websites, it's especially challenging to figure out on a cell phone. Our departure date is Wednesday, August 1st so I will immediately be contacting the above link tomorrow morning. Perfect timing. God bless you!

Are you sure Sylva is really the best choice for you? Its a blue collar working mans town. Very small, with very limited resources.

You can google storage places, there is no shortage of that here in WNC.... seems everyone and their mom with a little bit of money opens up a storage place. They are not free though.

Sylva is the county seat. County offices are located there.
