Some people are bothered by the conservative culture and politics, some not. Asheville has a rep for being liberal, but the surrounding area is much less so. It is admittedly based on brief visits to look at property, but we found Hendersonville rather crowded in terms of traffic, and conservative. We found Brevard much more relaxing and scenic, though one person we spoke with who admitted he was a Democrat and attended a Unitarian church, also said he didn't mention this to most people he dealt with on a daily basis (apart from friends). The nature aspect is a big plus. Not a great variety of flights from most local airports, though if you can drive as far as Greenville-Spartanburg or Charlotte, you can get to pretty much anywhere you'd want to fly to.

If you are referring to Main St. in Hendersonville and the "ring roads", Main St. has been undergoing some construction changes this season, and would account for some slow traffic. New wider speed bumps and so forth. Hendersonville often has events going on in the downtown area and our excellent location with the I-26 cloverleaf at Rt. 64E/W and the one at Upward Road easily brings tourists to Hendersonville. On any given day from beginning of May usually through end of October, we are tourist central. There are some wonderful shops with local art and crafts, and people love to hang out at the sidewalk cafes in the good weather. Brevard is cute, but not as accessible to highways, except for Rt. 280; and also has some very nice shops and some great restaurants. Easy to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway from the Rt. 64/Rt.280 intersection, stop and get an ice cream and head up through the Pisgah National Forest. Nice drive. Y'all come back now.
