Just got back from WNC this morning - yesterday we took a short ride on the BRP and really only the sumac is red! There were a few sugar maples in the distance that were starting to turn - should be perfect in two weeks! I always think of my forum friends when I am in your beautiful state - Asheville Native, gigmac, motordavid, the other lovesmountains, Queen of B, buttercup, shooting stars, quilter chick, (so many others, too) and I am grateful for all of our helpful advice over the FOUR years we have been planning our move!! I can count on clarity and insight on this Forum - Yay you!
So sweet of you to say!
Can't wait until you can be in the mountains full time too
Yep, here they come down here too. They're on their way in. Our maple tree in the yard has one branch that is strikingly, brilliantly red, and the rest of the tree is still green, lol. But man, that thing is gonna look like it's fully engulfed in flames when it turns. My "other" favorite time of the year is almost upon us!
I have never traveled the BRP, but would like to make a trip this year......so please keep us posted on the color change so I can hit the beautiful colors. Jeff
For those who perhaps are unaware, the Boone, Blowing Rock, Beech Mt (the highest), Banner Elk, and Valle Crucis area is the "High Country," they are north of Asheville and much higher up. Those leaves will change before Asheville's does. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs thru way up there and on down thru Asheville, actually a pretty long ways with switchbacks and 45 mph speed limit, and tourists.
Some people get on the Parkway for a while and then get off, depending on their general destination goals; others stay on it all the way, stopping at a number of interesting state parks, where there may be waterfalls like at Craggy or a high peak at Mitchell, that sort of thing, plus the Folk Art Center near the Oteen exit in Asheville, and then the Pisgah Inn southwest of Asheville, nice place for lunch and views. When the leaves are about to change, the Asheville Citizen newspaper will give "best scenic drives" and a little map for people who want a day trip out of our area, check their online website.
Loved that pic, Tarheel, of Beech Mountain's leaves beginning to change. Particularly glad to see and also hear from other posters that we're going to get some great reds this year.
Could someone please let me know when the leaves are at peak in area of Table Rock or Ceasar's Head? I want to get it right this year and actually hit it when the leaves are at their prettiest.

Seeing as how these are both SC state parks, your best bet is to post on the SC sub Greenville/upstate page.
