LONG-TERM 12 month CABIN RENTALS OR APARTMENTS IN BOONE ? (Asheville: buying, price)

We are considering a move to Boone, and would like to rent an apartment for a year before buying, to learn our way around first. We are mid 40s, empty nesters, and are looking for maybe a 2/2 for about $700 - $800/month, preferably no students.

But we are also wondering about rustic cabins in or close to Boone, that would do 12 month leases for $700'$800/ month ?
Is that possible ?
