Yeah, a response like that will surely do the trick.
The respectful reply would be like: nothing really spectacular about the Tour starting abroad, they change the route every year, and the start in another country has happened once in a while since the 1950's. The Tour de France has always been an international competition and the threshold to start abroad has never been very high, as long as the countries in question are OK with it. The Qatar oil millionaires have applied for a start there some year.
Now this year when the start being in Leeds, there might be a big fuss about it with a lot of people attending, but it's really not that spectacular as it might seem. It was in London just a few years ago, but maybe it didn't catch as much public attention back then.
The last major sporting event to visit Leeds was the 1996 UEFA Euro. The next one will be the 2015 Rugby World Cup. London gets everything so nobody cares.
Why in the heck are they having the Tour de France in England? Is it being rotated with different countries these days?
It'd sure be a riot to have the Tour de France here in the States...lol.
It has started in other countries a few times in recent years. Its certainly caught peoples imaginations here in recent weeks. Its been fantastic for Yorkshire, and the crowds have been enormous! Apparently, 2.5 million people have watched on the streets these first two days!
