Yeah, I'm happy about the weather too. May hit 20 tomorrow. It's certainly much more enabling this weather, I can enjoy being outside for once, and not having to put a damn coat on every time I go outside.

I've got footage of me on a train taken in 2009 here in the UK. It was going pretty fast so I used Google earth and my video to plot the times it took to go between various landmarks and the speed worked out to 128mph - 3mph above the speed limit. Naughty.

Average speeds suck for passenger trains outside Boston-DC, Chicago-St. Louis, Philly-Harrisburg, and NYC-Albany.

Only these 4 lines are rated for 100+ mph.

I took this years ago:

West Coast Main Line - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

from London to Liverpool. Max speed is 125 mph (same as the one MeteoMan saw). Same max speed as the Northeast Regional and slower than the Acelas. Average speed is much slower on both.

London to Liverpool: 212 miles, 2hr14min
New York to Washington DC: 228 miles, 2hr45min fastest train

Prices for the London to Liverpool train are all over the place. Found £12.50 for a mid afternoon ticket way ahead. For Sunday, in the evening a first-class ticket is cheaper on some trains (£38 one way for an 8 pm train).

Going to Newark Airport by midnight. Really looking forward to break the 100 mph barrier on my way there.
