Then you are basically borderline to semiarid.

Well if you get less than 23” inches yearly then you can be borderline to semiarid, even semiarid and if even less who knows if drier.

Maybe that's a little much, but they are forecasting a pretty substantial heatwave here.

Here's how the forecast for this heatwave compares to the other 30C+ days of the 2020s here.

33.0C Jul 9, 2020
32.6C Jun 21, 2022
32.2C Jul 10, 2020
32.1C Jul 7, 2020
32.0C Jul 8, 2020
32C Jun 18, 2024
32C Jun 19, 2024
32C Jun 20, 2024

31.8C Jul 19, 2022
31.4C Aug 26, 2021
31.3C Jun 6, 2021
31.2C Jul 6, 2020
31C Jun 21, 2024
30.6C May 25, 2020
30.5C Jun 9, 2020
30.5C Jul 26, 2020
30.5C Aug 29, 2021
....
30C Jun 17, 2024

If that forecast resolves, it would be second to early Jul 2020 as the most intense heatwave of the 2020s to date.

My hometown in the UK gets around 26" per year, funny to think, despite the UK's reputation that it's getting close to "semi-arid". Mind you, they had a high temperature of 59F yesterday.

Temperature definitely matters a lot for arid vs humid. Assuming relatively evenly distributed precipitation throughout the year, the cut-off for arid & semi-arid are 612mm and 306mm for Tampa, and 374mm and 187mm for London.

Where I live, it's only 274mm and 137mm, and we get about 3.5x the humid threshold. During the summer, it doesn't feel that wet, just about right, but the soil is pretty saturated during the cold half of the year.

Ok well today I got 0.3”. I should get 50” last year we got 39”. As for now this year there has been around 15” for now, so to make it to 50” it would have to rain average in July which is 7” and August 8”, that would make it 30”, and then the other to be September-December up to an amount similar to it. I can’t tell if it will be average or drier but for now it seems bit drier. Wherever you are just sucks now.

We were being threatened with a risk of severe thunderstorms, but looks like the brunt of it will be further northeast. We're just getting isolated showers and lots of thunder but also lots of patches of clear sky scattered about.

Forecast is upping the temperatures for next week's heat wave forecast even further. We're now approaching monthly record territory.

Next week's forecast:

June 17: 31C (daily record 32.8C)
June 18: 33C (daily record 34.4C)
June 19: 34C (daily record 32.8C)
June 20: 33C (daily record 32.5C)
June 21: 32C (daily record 33.0C)
June 22: 28C (daily record 32.5C)

The monthly record is 35.0C, set on June 14, 1920.

The most impressive heatwave to have occurred around the solstice is likely the June 19 one, which also followed a very intense early June heatwave that same year.

June 1: 33.3C
June 2: 33.9C
June 3: 34.4C
June 4: 33.9C
June 5: 30.6C
June 6: 27.2C
...
June 10: 28.9C
June 11: 28.3C
June 12: 28.9C
June 13: 31.7C
June 14: 32.8C
June 15: 31.7C
June 16: 33.3C
June 17: 32.8C
June 18: 34.4C
June 19: 32.8C
June 20: 28.3C

That June had a mean temperature of 21.1C, 3.6C (6.5F) above the 1980-2010 normal, a very impressive anomaly for a summer month. Even more impressive was the average high of 28.7C, 5.9C (10.6F) above normal.

Maybe not quite that hot, but it does seem like 100s are possible, and upper 90s will be widespread.
