I would be freezing with indoor temperatures in the 50s, and I don’t even live in what one would consider to be a warm or hot climate.

I don't like it when my house is below 72f. In the summer it is 78f with the A/C.

The coldest weather I've ever experienced is 6 or 7 below zero. If the latest GFS pans out I'll have an opportunity to experience something significantly colder next weekend.

BTW from that map you can see the moderating effect lake effect snow has on temperatures.

Wow, that isn't very cold, although KC doesn't really get cold winters at all anymore compared to decades ago. The record lowest temperature was -23F in December 1989 at MCI. It hasn't been even remotely that cold again. The coldest temperature I've experienced was a tie between Lyndonville, VT or Presque Isle, WI at around -35F.
You can add about 10 degrees onto that model for temperatures as well, the coldest readings will only verify if the skies are clear, winds light enough, and deep enough snow cover.
In terms of a micro-climate, you are correct that the Great Lakes have quite the downwind moderating influence regarding the coldest low temperatures likely to be reached during most winters. A good example would be the immediate shoreline areas of Lake Superior feature more hardwood forests at an elevation close to 700-800 ft. However, when you go south across the Gogebic Range and away from the immediate lake, the vegetation becomes more coniferous forests at an elevation around 1,700-1,900. Even in a span of 20 miles, the plant hardiness zones can vary quite a bit.

Yeah I was looking at some other models and most are warmer. Though the CMC has some really cold temps for next weekend.

I grew up in NJ where I also experienced the coldest temp at around the same -6 or -7, some time in the late 70's I think (according to my mother, who remembers when that happened). So I'm kinda hoping it gets to the negative teens just to be able to say I've experienced it!

^I would say minus teens is where the "immediately painful" kind of cold starts to happen. Like the kind of cold where your hands start feeling like they're getting stabbed by pins and knifes even if you take them out of your gloves for short amounts of time. Still a lot of fun to experience though.

My hands and feet get pretty cold once it gets to 55 or so, but overall I still feel comfortable somehow. I guess the core of my body can still maintain its normal temperature even with cold extremities. I actually like the contrast.

Coldest I've ever experienced was -2 F / -19 C, on January 7, 2014. It actually stayed above zero in Nashville, but where I was living at the time was slightly colder and managed to get just below zero.

It actually got to -9 F / -23 C where I lived on January 19, 1994 but I was just a year old then, and don't remember it.

Wind chills as low as -30F

Pretty safe to say that old man winter FINALLY showed up and he's mad

Seriously? Temperature anomalies over -50F

actual air temps of -30F next week? Ok this wont happen but it's still likely to be near record breaking cold

GFS is spitting out some ridiculous cold over Chicagoland in the next 10 days. Look at those low temps

This very well could be historic cold for February in my region and really for much of the US
