Good info but, "non extreme"?? Its the 14th lowest pressure on record. Would a Top 10 be more extreme? Its not often you see a sub 920mb cyclone in Atlantic/Gulf. And keeping 185mph Cat5 winds is impressive. Top 10 for wind peak.
I think once it makes the turn she'll spread out more. Currently a compact storm. We should look for Satellite comparisons on size.
Hmm... previous storms that had 175+ mph winds usually were sub-900 mb. The strongest storms have about the pressure of Mt. Greylock, so equivalent removing a 1000 m column of surface air. Here's a comparison in size with Patricia
and a bit early, but thinking of fall foliage, this report says the cool and somewhat dry late summer weather should be good fall foliage. Ideal for September would be mild and sunny
The summertime temperatures in the Northeast have generally been below normal. Looking at precipitation, departures from normal in the region range from a five inch deficit to a 14 inch surplus. One exception is the Mid-Coast region of Maine, where it has been quite dry (10 - 12 inches below normal). For much of the region, the summer's weather has set the stage for what could be a great foliage display!
63 and overcast with a 58 dew as of 5 PM. An early afternoon rainstorm brought 0.17" of rain, but no thunder. A second downpour just ended recently, again with no thunder.
The high has been 69 so far following a low of 55.
