So post landfall Irma may create a giant trough. Makes sense, haven't thought of the interaction before. This will mean cool and drizzly weather for us

I think once it makes the turn she'll spread out more. Currently a compact storm. We should look for Satellite comparisons on size.
Hmm... previous storms that had 175+ mph winds usually were sub-900 mb. The strongest storms have about the pressure of Mt. Greylock, so equivalent removing a 1000 m column of surface air. Here's a comparison in size with Patricia

and a bit early, but thinking of fall foliage, this report says the cool and somewhat dry late summer weather should be good fall foliage. Ideal for September would be mild and sunny

https://www.foliagenetwork.com/~foli...-report-1-2017

The summertime temperatures in the Northeast have generally been below normal. Looking at precipitation, departures from normal in the region range from a five inch deficit to a 14 inch surplus. One exception is the Mid-Coast region of Maine, where it has been quite dry (10 - 12 inches below normal). For much of the region, the summer's weather has set the stage for what could be a great foliage display!
