I decided to check the last time there was 3 or more days with sub-55 highs in NYC. Answer? 1987! They had three that year. Wow, this hasn't happened in 29 years until now
When was the last time it was 4 or more? Surprise surprise, 1978. They had 5 that year!!!FIVE!!! Jesus Christ man, 1978 was ****ing cold!!! It was almost record cold every single month that year, it was like 2014 on steroids
1967 had 6. 1962 had 3. 1958 had 6. 1956 had 3. 1950 had 5.
Ok so not as rare as you would think, but in this day and age it is very very uncommon

And...... just checked... Bridgeport, CT today made it 12 days in a row with the max temp staying below normal.
The Last time with a streak this long was Jan 26 to March 7 2015.

Interesting, just one year ago. Quite the 3 year long cold epoch, which may have been record warm for the northeast at times but still was record cold overall.

The cold epoch might not be over yet, we might have had an El Nino fueled warm year and we could be back to where we were from November 2013-summer 2015. The pattern we have now is eerily reminiscent of what we had in late March and April of last year. The cold epoch of the late 70s really lasted until the El Nino killed it off in 1982, but even then 1980 was a good year, and I believe that 1981 and 1982 weren't as bad as 1976-79

The 80s were terrible record cold everywhere, every single janaury till 89 was below average.
