28.7° this morning. 6th time this April in the 20s
And people think this stops trees from growing? No, just slows them down. Below freezing doesn't damage trees, Low-mid 20s for few hours does damage blooms!
Bridgeport, CT at 32°. Thats 5x this month. Most # of times since 2007. Philly too, they hit freezing 3 times this month. Most since 2007.
So was the GFS that off with all the 20s in the Mid Atlantic??? Nope.
It's in the 30s to the South Carolina coast.
Cambium if that were true having a frost or freeze so late in the season would not be a big deal at all. The damage is clear to see here majority of trees still fully leafed but some oaks that were just beginning to leaf are 100% fried and some of the new growth was fried but thankfully overall the damage was minimal. Did not drop below 30 here tonight so I'm thankful. But last week it Did that was the first time since 2007 I believe.Pretty rare to get temps below 30 in April here.

Late in the season, yes. But he's not talking about late in the season, he's talking about budding trees. But when the leafs are just buds or just start to open it has little impact.
I've seen a freeze damage nearly leafed out trees, though they recover in a few weeks.

It's as cold this morning in parts of North Carolina as here! Forecast high is only 49°F, but the dry air I think we can get higher than that. Maybe not, forecast wind from the west from that cold airmass.

Yeah I was surprised at how warm parts of mass. Were. High here is forecast around 60 which is 11 degrees below normal.
30F was the low here, the fifth low below freezing this month, which means half of the days this month have had lows below freezing, three nights in the 20's, ridiculous. This morning's low should be the last of it though.
I'm in Charlotte now. The trees and everything looks fine seems like no damage at all happened. Even his peach tree which has hundreds of little peaches on it is fine. Birds are chirping everyhting seems fine. Wouldn't even know there was a freeze just a few hours ago.

Speaking of freezes. Check out what the UHI does to last freeze dates compared with the rest of the area (and state). Downtown near lake has last freeze days April 5th-10th, which is more similar to downstate near St Louis..... MDW is April 28th ORD on May 11th and I'm May 8th.
April 9, 2016 Snow Event. Check out some reports from the NC Mountains. Cool.
Remember, it could be snowing for hours, doesn't mean would be big accumulation total especially in April.. So snow in April is more common than we think but stats wont show that.
Looks like none of the mountains in western New England got much snow
