Interesting wind flow aloft.

"Smoke from Canadian wildfires seen drifting down to U.S. by our satellites: http://go.nasa.gov/1IvREFR"

https://twitter.com/NASA/status/6087...167553/photo/1

here's the Upper level winds. Mid Levels are similar how they are pushing south from Canada. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/sfctest/new/...=19&parm=500mb

One more look using my software. You can see why the smoke was traveling down like that.

Upper level winds.

I'm lucky that little dip is there in Eastern Canada otherwise a Ridge would be peaking higher and I would be getting mid 90s not just Mid Atlantic.

On the topic of wildfires, here is the fire risk map for BC. The heat has upped the risk of fires. However, the risk looks pretty low for most of the Thompson-Okanagan, the usual hot spot for fires.

Meanwhile.. Heat = increases pollution levels. NYC, Long Island and suburb of NYC

...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THURSDAY TO 10 PM THURSDAY...

THE NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION HAS
ISSUED AN AIR QUALITY HEALTH ADVISORY FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...
SUFFOLK...NASSAU...RICHMOND...KINGS...QUEENS...NEW YORK...BRONX...
WESTCHESTER...ROCKLAND.

AIR QUALITY LEVELS IN OUTDOOR AIR ARE PREDICTED TO BE GREATER THAN AN
AIR QUALITY INDEX VALUE OF 100 FOR THE POLLUTANT OF OZONE. THE AIR
QUALITY INDEX...OR AQI...WAS CREATED AS AN EASY WAY TO CORRELATE
LEVELS OF DIFFERENT POLLUTANTS TO ONE SCALE. THE HIGHER THE AQI VALUE,
THE GREATER THE HEALTH CONCERN.

WHEN POLLUTION LEVELS ARE ELEVATED...THE NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF
HEALTH RECOMMENDS THAT INDIVIDUALS CONSIDER LIMITING STRENUOUS OUTDOOR
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ADVERSE HEALTH EFFECTS. PEOPLE
WHO MAY BE ESPECIALLY SENSITIVE TO THE EFFECTS OF ELEVATED LEVELS OF
POLLUTANTS INCLUDE THE VERY YOUNG, AND THOSE WITH PRE-EXISTING RESPIRATORY
PROBLEMS SUCH AS ASTHMA OR HEART DISEASE. THOSE WITH SYMPTOMS SHOULD CONSIDER
CONSULTING THEIR PERSONAL PHYSICIAN.

A TOLL FREE AIR QUALITY HOTLINE HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED SO NEW YORK
RESIDENTS CAN STAY INFORMED ON THE AIR QUALITY SITUATION.
THE TOLL FREE NUMBER IS: 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

NWS NY. It's good I'm not in NYC or away from the coast.

Quote:
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
420 AM EDT THU JUN 11 2015

IT WILL BE A HOT AND HUMID ONE TODAY AWAY FROM THE IMMEDIATE COAST AS 850 TEMPS RISE TO 16-18C. HIGHS OF MID TO UPPER 80S WILL BE COMMON AT MANY LOCATIONS. MOST OF NENJ AND NYC SHOULD REACH THE LOWER 90S.
NWS Birmingham Alabama, 90s continue into next week

Quote:
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BIRMINGHAM AL
344 AM CDT THU JUN 11 2015

A TREND OF LOWER RAIN CHANCES WILL BEGIN SATURDAY AND CONTINUE INTO THE UPCOMING WEEK AS AN UPPER-LEVEL RIDGE STRENGTHENS AND MOVES WESTWARD ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA. THIS PATTERN ALSO MEANS WARMER TEMPERATURES CAN BE EXPECTED WITH LOW TO MID 90S FOR MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY.
NWS Chicago

ANOTHER POTENTIAL ACTIVE WEATHER DAY IS ON TAP FOR THE REGION...THIS
