Good question. I've seen SE Ridge pop up more than a central Ridge moves East..

I also seen its harder for the Top of the ridge to peak to Montreal.

Also.. with the fronts and troughs ability to dig into the Northeast, a central Ridge has a harder time migrating East and would moderate most likely.

There's a bunch of different senarios hard to mention in 1 post.

but in general.. I feel at ease with that ridge there, then the south. Hot West winds, Better than Hot South winds.

I'm willing to make a bet majority of our heat waves and hot temps never came when there was a ridge in the center of the U.S. (before or during)

It keeps taking until 9 to drop below 80 here. I have no idea what the normal time for that is, but it's rather annoying for it to be so warm for so long. An average high of 90 would be much nicer if it quickly dropped into the lower 70s/upper 60s shortly after sunset.

Yeah, those hot evenings that take a while to cool down, suck. My A/C has been on all day with temps in the upper 70s. Sun is beaming on half the house.

Use this link to see the current departures. Says it goes back 24hrs but some frames are the same hours so only goes back to 2am right now.

HOURLY DEPARTURE FROM 1981-2010 AVG

Current 2pm departures... Don't ask about Caribou. lol. Everytime I contact these guys I never get a response back. Makes me wonder if anyone is maintaining the site.

Right now it's 9 above normal for the hour in Wilmington, NC. 96°!

75° Virginia Beach well below normal because of storms that dropped the temp

4pm Temps are Summerish but dewpoints are not. Wow!

Islip 51°!
NYC 54° (LGA shown here).
Philly 54°.
Hartford 55°.

Clear skies mostly out there. My dewpoint is higher than Islip. Still 54 with temps in the 80s? I wonder if we ever had DPs in the 40s with these temps.

It does feel better outside with the lower dew point.

86.0 F / 30.0 C here. The dew point is 61 F / 16 C here.

Yeah, even though my AC is running all day, I can tolerate this MUCh better! Sucks you're still in the 60s.

I'm reminding myself again its not so much the heat I hate.. It's the friggin muggy oppresive air..

Also.. Bugs seem less when its dry. Interesting.

I probably will watch that movie tomorrow night, since I've been irradiated by the blazing sun all week.

The ocean was downright hot when I went swimming this afternoon - you can really tell how much the sun warms the water on days like today. At least the breeze makes things a tad more tolerable than inland. This is the first week at the beach I've had in quite some time not seeing a drop of rain. Maybe next year we'll get a tropical storm or something.

AC is running non-stop of course - it's currently 73 although it's set to 71 - beach houses aren't that great for holding cold air in...lol. But the nights have been great - nice and cool once the sun goes down.
