It looks like NYC or Boston won't dip below 12-14C, so I think the cold is more of a coastal thing. Buffalo looks like it's gonna get hit hard

Awesome.

That's really great. Once this miserably warm day is done, it's back to cooler weather.

Why is it so much warmer on the south shore of MA than Boston? Are the waters that much water down there than in the bay?

71 here, but with a DP of 63 - looking forward to another soaker tonight and tomorrow morning.

^^ Wind direction maybe? I do see the south shore has a S wind while Boston is more E/SE.

Yeah, I see a couple reasons.. The obvious one the Sea Breeze off cold waters as opposed to a warmer south flow.

Also Boston had a few scattered clouds around as opposed to full sun Southern MA shores.

NWS Boston

Quote:
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA
359 PM EDT SAT APR 18 2015

TEMPERATURES HAVE SOARED INTO THE MID 70S SOUTH OF THE MASS PIKE AND
AWAY FROM THE COAST. THE COASTAL SEABREEZE HAS MOVED ALMOST AS FAR
INLAND AS 495. BETWEEN THE SEABREEZE AND THE COAST...TEMPERATURES
ARE IN THE UPPER 50S TO LOWER 60S. THE COLD FRONT IS CURRENTLY
DRAPED ACROSS EASTERN NEW YORK STATE. AS IT MOVES INTO SOUTHERN NEW
ENGLAND LATE THIS AFTERNOON WINDS WILL BECOME GUSTY AND SHIFT TO THE
NORTHWEST.

TONIGHT...HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN FROM QUEBEC BRINGING COOLER AND
DRIER AIR INTO SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND.
NWS NY

Quote:
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
131 PM EDT SAT APR 18 2015

STILL ON TRACK TO HAVE THE WARMEST DAY OF THE YEAR SO FAR DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF A MAINLY SUNNY SKY...DEEP MIXING...850 MB TEMPS RANGING FROM 7-10C...AND DOWNSLOPING WNW LOW FLOW...INCREASING TO 15-25KT IN THE AFTERNOON - STRONGEST FAR N AND FAR W ZONES. HIGHS WILL RUN AROUND 15-20 DEGREES AROUND NORMAL...IT WOULD NOT BE SURPRISING IF A FEW LOCATIONS IN NE NJ/NYC/LOWER HUDSON VALLEY REACHED OR BROKE THE 80 DEGREE MARK.

7pm Temp update. Some pretty awesome differences now. I dropped fast into the 60s. Feels great now! But 30 minutes to my north its in the mid 70s still.

Danbury 75 Bridgeport 60.

NYC 74 JFK 61.

As I thought, they backed off and it now shows only 85F.
