In the last week of March 2012 probably 75% of trees in Kentucky were bright green like the picture on the right side of Cambium's post. Now, at the same time of year, I can hardly find even a tiny flower on the ground. It is infuriating after I was able to see what a really pleasant spring is like.
Well it says its 2c in Stansted, thats cold enough.
Was a bit surprised because the past few weeks when i've looked its been far warmer there than here and then I looked and I was like 'wtf is that all about, that wasn't forecast'.

Not too rare here but probs very cold there.
OK, then that is pretty cold for there. I think it was around this date last year that Hampstead had something like 83 consecutive hours at or below freezing and we had 11 consecutive sub-freezing daily means though - I don't expect to ever see that happen again at this time of year in my lifetime.
The grass here has gotten greener, and there are a lot of buds and even some small leaves here and there, but overall it's pretty far behind 2012, trees were already flowering in early/mid March.
Spring 2012 was perfect. Spring 2013 sucked for the most part. And Spring 2014 sucks even more.

Heavy rain is causing evaporative cooling in SE England.
Here, we have rain, increasing in intensity, and a temp of 4.2C, which is falling steadily.
Nor'Easter now has low pressure of 960mb equal to the 1993 Super storm
MJO not showing a change in this cold pattern for April
Look how purty this Nor'Easter is....

Tim’s Weather World: Does a cold winter mean a cool spring and summer?
Will the spring and summer following a colder than average winter also tend to be cooler than average? The winter of 2013-2014 was the 3rd coldest on record with an average temperature of 18.8°. So far this spring has gotten off to a cool start. 18 of the first 25 days (72%) of this month have been below average. March now ranks as the 18th coldest on record through the 25th of the month. Does that mean our cold winter is spilling over into a cool spring and will that trend continue into summer?
The Chicago National Weather Service office crunched the numbers to see if there has been a correlation in the past. They looked at the top 20 coldest winters on record and then the springs and summers that followed.
12 out of 20 springs that followed those coldest winters ended up being below average with seven of those springs ranking among the top 20 coldest springs on record. So 60% of springs that followed colder than average winters ended up being cooler than average.
The bar graphs below show the departures from normal for the springs and summers that followed the top 20 coldest winters on record.
The correlation is much stronger for a cooler than average summer following a colder than average winter. 80% of summers that followed the top 20 coldest winters ended up being cooler than average or 16 out 20 summers
I don't really buy into any of this anymore. The Philly Weather Blog posted in November of this year that 80% of winters following a well above average October are above normal. October 2013 was well above normal here (3F or more above the mean), and then we had one of the coldest winters in years.
Anything can happen between now and June. I've also noticed in many years for Philly a cold summer leads into a warm Fall and Winter following that.

that might be more than we've had, if only because it's more variable here.
Upper level low over the area. High pressure moving in squeezing the flow between the low. Still cold aloft -12C up there. Struggling past 30s again down here! This is amazing! I'm grateful to get these temps in January.
Good news we warm up.
Bad news we might have a Cool & Wet April and May. Pattern might return.
