This appears to be a rare whole-country-at-one-time storm system. Keep those pictures coming, Cambium.

Those edge-of-your-seat maybe rain-maybe snow-maybe ice events are the pits. Dropping to 20F followed by a huge incoming precip shield would be far superior. Only 10F more cold is required for you to approach such a scenario .

first snow of the season coming tonight. 2-4 inches. was forecast to be almost all rain earlier. Still a bit unclear:

Rain, snow, and sleet, becoming all snow after 3am. Low around 27. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Monday's has another mix forecast. Middle of next week looks rather cold, with highs below 30°F several days.

We've been pretty spared here in Indianapolis so far, right on the northern fringe of the storm. We had about an hour of good sleet last night, then a break, then a steady snow for much of the night that ended around 2am or so. That left us with just shy of 4 inches of snow. Expecting another 2-3 inches this afternoon and evening as the next wave comes through but the worst of that will be in southern Indiana. Yet another wave is coming Sunday night but not as much moisture with that one. Only expecting an inch or two of sleet and snow with that system. Then we get high temperatures around 15 degrees for Tuesday and Wednesday and possibly Thursday depending on which forecast you believe. A couple say mid-teens but one is saying 29. So all over the place.

Models have trended south past 48hrs. Everyone looking at their local forecast in PA that says 1 inch of snow might be surprised to see near half foot in spots. What a mess. These are the details we don't see days out. Any little shift in the front and it changes everything.
