Freezing southwest winds will force snow to around 400 metres elevation over New South Wales and Victoria on Sunday, making it likely to be the strongest cold outbreak in three years.
Hamilton and Ballarat in western Victoria both may see snow showers; as well as Goulburn, Canberra, Bathurst and Young in New South Wales. Other, more typical, locations like Katoomba and Orange are also likely to see snow showers in the afternoon.
Over the ranges in Sydney, afternoon showers will be brief, but icy winds will certainly make it feel like single digit temperatures most of the day.
Cold air has been building over the southeast for days now, and the strongest in a series of cold fronts is now crossing the region, prompting a Severe Weather Warning for cold in Victoria.
The last time snow fell to such low levels was August 2005, when it reached sea level over Melbourne suburbs.
GFS shows thickness over Melbourne tomorrow at below 528dm, 850hPA temps down to -6C and forecast temps 41 / 52F (5/11C).
The Australian Capital city Canberra has a forecast temps of 0/7C; the western Vic town of Ballarat will be -1/6C while other towns in western Vic will be under 10C generally.
There are a few puffy clouds in the sky right now, but they say a chance of thundershowers today. I think it went around us the way it looks right now. Here is our current temp and forecast.

I wish the high were 93 F, even 103 F...
However even though I like high summer heat, 83 F "would do".
I hope we'll get at least another full week of summer before fall arrives,
even though that won't happen until at least mid-September
but currently we have no highs forecast at even 80 F in the next 14 days.
in my section of Central Texas....It doesn't sound hot with those numbers, but I just came in from outside and it really is not pleasant.

And in Texas, it's usually in the 60s or 70s in the summer. I really am looking forward to cool, crisp air. That's the time I actually get crazy, talk to the air with arms outstretched, tilt back my head, and thank it for being so nice. Is that as bizarre as kissing the ground at the Texas border or putting Texas soil under the delivery table to be sure the baby born in another state was "born on Texas soil?" I guess it kind of is; I'm guilty.
