According to Farmer's Almanac, it will be mild but long winter. I am not looking forward to it.
Those months after the holidays are especially dreadful> I feel that this year we only got winter - one week of Spring - short Summer - now it's getting cold again

Well, my pessimistic outlook is that it will be slightly below/moderatly below normal in october, november/early december, and then a major pattern change with mild westerly winds that continues both in latter half of december, all of january, all of feberuary and the first half of mars. It will come in as one of the 5-mildest winters ever recorded. Temperature anomalies for my hometown in Dec: +1.7C, Jan: +4.9C and feb +3.3C

I hope im wrong, though.

I have a sneaky suspicion that it will be extra cold and snowy this year.

Farmer's Almanac is junk science. I do hear predictions of 1970/71 or 1990/91 winters, which means a heavy snowfall in early winter and a warm spring. Predictions are about as accurate as rolling the dice though.

Mac15, I'm pleased to inform you that your very balmy winters are every bit as warm as winters in many Mediterranean coastal towns (if not warmer).

Therefore I shall dub thee "honorary Med boy"! (the title is not valid from spring to autumn).
Congratulations

Very very very wrong, Med boy!

Take Venice for example:

Average low in January -1.9 C
Average high in January 5.8 C

You'd better study up for the next time!
