Luckily in my neck of the woods it will just be slightly above freezing,
want to hang on to our snow for a white Christmas
I don't care about the snow for Christmas. Here the only snow that's left is in the woods and in shaded areas. My backyard still has a nice covering, too (my house faces south, so the front yard gets the direct sun throughout the day and the snow's mostly melted away, but the backyard stays shaded so there's still at least an inch on the ground there.) The very light dusting of snow we had this morning contributed nothing. But today is the 10th consecutive day of either snowfall or snow cover, so I've had my fill of a white December and I'm satisfied. Don't particularly prefer December 25th itself to be snowy over any other day.
And actually, on second thought, if the snow is sufficiently melted away in the Poconos by Sunday or Monday, which it might well be, I might head up there for a hike
Stay strong warm weather fans....WC and others just updated their high temp forecast for late this weekend. Many places south of Chicago/Great lakes and east of the Mississippi could see highs from 65 to 70 F. Most of the Califoirna coast will see 60's and 70's (in the deserts) and from Key West to southern Georgia could see 80 F:
Any snow left on the ground up north should fade fast:
I'd rather it not rain, but beggars can't be choosers.
Still a lot of uncertainty about this weekend's storm. It will be loaded with moisture as it pull it from the Gulf of Mexico, but it's path is not set in stone. The Euro puts Chicagoland in the snow band (with some impressive totals), while the GFS has lower snow amounts and more of an icy mix.
Accuweather seems to be taking the Euro's account right now, but we are certainly close to the ice line
A road with a thin layer of snow on it will take you by surprise quicker than a road full of snow. All our streets are snow packed except the highways which have a half slushy mess on them. Not a bad day at 22F with some light snow. Actually nice out.
Good advice and very true! temps stayed in the 20s today (and now the teens) that any road melt we got was just refreezing. Add that with the slush and fluffy snow, roads were a nightmare all over CT today.
Here's I-95 on the CT coast. A typical "wet" spot was all iced up with a thin layer of snow. We were crawling. Took 2 hours to travel 18 miles.
This is Route 1 Boston Post Road which parallels I-95 on the coast.
Earlier today. Extra 2 inches fell today.
Boston getting snow now. Half foot falling there right now. Big flakes.
