From February to May it gets progressively drier and sunnier though. Feb/March are usually cloudy/rainy, late March to early May is usually dry and sunny.

I think you'll find the opposite is true. It gets progressively wetter from February to May, with February being the driest month of the year:
It does get sunnier by May, but that is more as a result of the longer days (and greater amounts of "possible" sunshine). For this reason, southern England will probably not turn "Mediterranean" even if temperatures keep rising into mid-century, unless of course, there is a corresponding drop in summer precipitation.

I never heard of that. Does a low pressure center set up shop off the coast of France?
It's caused by a return of Atlantic low-pressure systems (following a lull in late winter/spring). It is also known as the "Return of the Westerlies" - of course, it's not a true "monsoon" in the strict sense, but because of the similarity in its timing (early summer), the name has been borrowed from its usual tropical application.
Mild nights (18°C), hot, dry early afternoons (30-34°C) commonly followed by afternoon convective thunderstorms.
As summer approaches, nights get warmer, days get cooler, air gets more humid overall, more stable, less storms, still very sunny.
In my dream climate April has the hottest afternoons of any month;
i.e.
March 17/30°C
April 18/33°C
May 22/31°C
June 24/31°C
July 25/30°C
That isnt spring weather.
