My focus will be for the NorthEast/Ohio Valley at times.

This thread will be for the Tuesday storm and the possible upcoming big Friday-Saturday storm.

Aside from the Fridgid air, looks like we'll get snow as well..

First... NAM (which usually overdoes the precip amounts shows this for snow depth by mid week.

NAM12z shows a Norlun Trough setup. WoW!

Wow!

SREF has half foot for most of MA & CT on Tuesday. 8-10" for parts of MA. Snow ratios on right show to be high! 15 & 20:1 ratios in CT and 30:1 in MA!

SREF is a short range model and can be found through NOAA.

From NWS Boston which covers northern CT, MA and parts of NH.

WE WILL BE ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE SYSTEM WITH COLD AIR DRAINING IN SO PTYPE SHOULD BE SNOW. SNOWFALL POTENTIALS CONTINUE TO LOOK LIKE 1-2 INCHES GENERALLY AND 2- 5 INCHES SOUTH COAST. IF THIS REMAINS CONSTANT IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF FORECASTS AN ADVISORY MAY BE NEEDED ESPECIALLY FOR SOUTHERN RI AND PARTS OF SOUTHEAST MASS.

AS THE COASTAL LOW MOVES OFF ON TUESDAY...NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE WITH POTENTIAL GUSTS 20-30 KNOTS IN THE AFTERNOON ESPECIALLY ALONG THE COAST. TEMPS ON TUESDAY WILL CLIMB SLOWLY AND REMAIN BELOW FREEZING ALL AREAS. THE COMBINATION OF THE TWO WILL BRING WIND CHILLS IN THE SINGLE NUMBERS TUESDAY...COOLING BELOW ZERO TUESDAY NIGHT. SOME AIR TEMPS WILL ALSO COOL BELOW ZERO IN THE NORTHWEST.

THE NORTHWEST WINDS AND COLD AIR WILL ALSO BRING OCEAN EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS OFF THE OUTER CAPE TUESDAY NIGHT.

As time nears I hope you all can post in here with your OBS. Anyone affected by these storms in the Northeast I would love to keep it here so we can look back. Thanks

Can't this all just be posted in the Winter 2012-2013 thread?

I tried to find some posts on some past storms and it was impossible scrolling through countless posts in that thread. It's nice to have memories of storms themselves. That thread is winter in general and for the entire northern Hemisphere. This thread is for the snowstorms and for the NorthEast. But nobody is holding you back from posting there. I just hope you can post here so we have an easy to look back record of things.

Plus, I dont think folks in the UK care about my storm updates for our area. lol

With that said...

Monday Night-Tuesday Storm Update:

Apparently its not a clipper anymore. Its a coastal Low with a potential for the trough to invert.

HPC Says dont believe the last NAM model

...LOW PRESSURE FORMING NEAR THE MID-ATLANTIC/NORTHEAST COAST
MONDAY NIGHT-TUESDAY...

PREFERENCE: GFS OR ECMWF
CONFIDENCE: AVERAGE

THE NAM AND GFS HAVE TRENDED STRONGER ALOFT AND DEEPER WITH THE LOW. HOWEVER...THE NAM LIES NEAR THE DEEP EDGE OF THE GUIDANCE AND GIVEN SLIGHTLY WORSE INITIALIZATION OVER CANADA...THE NAM IS CONSIDERED UNLIKELY. AMONG THE REMAINING SOLUTIONS...THE ECMWF AND UKMET/CANADIAN ARE MORE LIKE THE GFS AS WELL. THUS...RECOMMEND A NON-NAM SOLUTION.
