A hideous month. A much colder month than March was. Notable blizzard on 4th. Very dull and wet. Gales to see out the month. One for the dust bin.
Harpur Hill weather station recorded a lot more rain than I did, which is strange, as there's never been such a big difference before. This could be due to the fact that a lot of the rain was quite showery and hit and miss, but I also seem to have under reported rainfall consistently in frontal events.
My Rating: 0/10 It doesn't actually seem like we've had an April this year. It's gone January, February, March, February. Summer better be good.
If you would, please kindly box up this April you've just had and send it Air Express to me here in Georgia. I'll save it for, say, mid-July, and open that sucker up and I'll have a month of sheer joy in the middle of our utterly dreadful summer.

Thanks in advance.
As long as you can send your summer over here, I'd be more than happy!
April was just nominally warmer than March, with the mean temperature coming in at about 42F/5.5C, compared to March's 39.3F/4.2C. It felt cooler, though, as the latter two-thirds of March averaged an incredible 46.1F/7.8C, a figure which rises to 52.2F if you count only the warmest 11-day mid-portion of the month.
The month had many dry (in terms of relative humidity) and sunny days. Lows at the International Airport were typically between the middle 20's to middle 30's (-5C to 2C), rising to the mid 40's to mid 50's (7C-13C) during the daytime. The coldest temperature was 21 (-6C) on the 16th and 17th; the warmest, 72 (22C) on the 14th, the lone 70-degree day. In March, we had a very unusual four. Overall, temperatures came in at around 2.7F (1.5C) above normal at the International Airport.
One exception to the dry rule was the 15th, when we had 2" (5 cm) of rain dumped on us, with wind gusts that day reaching over 50 mph (90 kph). Then on the 16th temperatures cooled down, allowing 0.6" (1.5 cm) of snow to fall; however, other nearby areas saw accumulations of up to 11" (28 cm).
Because of the relatively (but not outstandingly) warm temperatures and ample rainfall, especially of the 15th, things are "springing" up much earlier than usual. Many trees already have leaves on them as of the 30th; those that do not have buds. The crickets have been chirping for about 1.5 months now, and some flowers are blooming in the wetlands.

A lot of convective activity all month but no thunder days to show for it.
Not overly impressed with the rainfall, but it could have been worse. There hasn't been a month with significantly above average rainfall since October 2011, most months since have been below average. The two thunder days this month were just a few rumbles heard from nearby thunderstorms, without any coming overhead. There was some good variety in the temperatures this month, with hot days at the start, and some cooler days at the end.
