Hello, I have taken a job in McLean (zip code 22102) and I'm looking for affordable housing (I'm only 22). I would like to live with my girlfriend who is attending AU law school (metro stop Tenleytown- AU) and we would like something that is convenient for both of us. I imagine that I will need to drive for my commute. Could anyone suggest any neighborhoods that would be accommodating for this? Thanks for the help!

Default Northwest DC is a great place to live

hi,
saw your post. My wife and I live on Mass. Ave, near National Cathedral, and close to G'town and Dupont Circle. Been here 3 months and love it. Use the BUSSES as well as Metro. Easy to get around, and get the SmartTrip card for paying metro/bus fares. Good luck.

I'd have your girlfriend get references from the law school for apartments near Tenleytown. If you live near Tenleytown, you can take Chain Bridge to Virginia and drive right down Route 123 (Dolley Madison) to get to McLean/Tysons. If you're working in 22102, it's most likely a part of the Tysons area with a McLean mailing address (the section of McLean closer to DC has a 22101 zip code).

Tenleytown doesn't have that much nightlife compared to other parts of town, but it would be convenient to her and not a bad drive to work for you. In your spare time, Georgetown would be a short drive and other parts of the city (and Arlington, where a lot of folks in their 20s live) would be easily accessible by car or Metro.

You could try and "compromise" and live somewhere between Tenleytown and Tysons, but you'd still end up needing to drive to Tysons and then she'd have to find a way to get to class by car or subway.

Thanks for the advice! Do you know how much rents are near Tenleytown compared to the rest of DC?

Additionally, does anyone know how much keeping a car in DC costs?
