and if you worked in DC and had to commute by Metro and also did a lot of socializing in the city. (I am willing to live either in DC proper or MD, VA)
-Near any of the following Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Wal-mart, Target, nice Mall, Good restaurants.
-Safe, quaint, friendly
-$2000-$3000 a month rent for either a 2-3 bedroom house or apartment. Close to a Metro stop.
Thanks Jim! I have revised my origional question to read "any of the following" as I don't have to have all in one area. Just one or two would be nice. Thanks for the heads up on the malls!
I would agree with Jim's recommendations. Clarendon meets most of your requirements, but I know some people don't like it because it didn't develop organically and can come across as sterile.
Old Town Alexandria may also be a good fit. It's got a Whole Foods and a Trader Joe's, and it's definitely quainter than either Clarendon or Tenleytown. I think you could find something in your price range there, but I'm less familiar with Alexandria than with Arlington (where Clarendon is).
Alexandria would fit. There are some areas in DC that you might like (Logan Circle comes to mind, because of a Whole Foods and proximity to Target in Columbia Heights), but you'd be closer to the $3000 mark for a 2-bedroom and you'll be farther from a Walmart and malls.
A Whole Foods next to a Wal Mart, that would be a site to see. Maybe the customers would run into each other in the parking lots and beat each other up !!!
LOL Smakawhat! I really prefer Whole Foods but you can't beat WallyWorld for all of the cheap stuff we need for daily life. I HATE shopping at Wal-mart but alas, my budget demands it. I stock up as much as I can between trips, LOL!
Annapolis for the Whole Foods, Target and Sams Club. Not sure where nearest Walmart is. Metro is another matter, unless you are willing to ride commuter bus instead or shuttle bus to metro
Crystal City is close to Harris Teeter, Pentagon City Mall, Target, Costco, and the metro. It is not a bad metro ride to Clarendon for Whole Foods. If you wanted to live near lots of places to go out, I would choose Clarendon/Courthouse and metro to Crystal City for the rest. Either way, I recommend Arlington for your needs.
