This is an interesting read from a study by a consulting firm helping a community in Michigan decide whether or not to green-light a casino.

Recent Study Suggests that Casino Gambling has a Positive Economic and Community Impact

It shows that a lot of previously held perceptions after substantive review (quantitative as well as qualitative) is inaccurate. I know that there are variances in situations, but building a casino is building a casino. And the casino being proposed in National Harbor is not going to be a low-rate affair; it will be upscale, geared like the rest of the development area to take money from visitors from other areas.

Your thoughts?

Interesting article. It would have been great if we were provided with an actual copy of the study instead of a summary. Overall it does seem in line with the positive impact that casinos have had on Michigan. Especially those that target high-end clientele. That high end model is also being leveraged by Cordish and their partners in the development of Woodbine Live in CA. I know that PWC is spearheading a similar study for MD which is supposed to be completed this month. From my understanding they will look at adding table games as well as adding a sixth site. That will be used to help guide the gaming session scheduled for July/August. As a side note, its interesting that Cordish is against a sixth site citing its impact to their location but downplay the impact that their facility will have on Hollywood Casino-Perryville (Maryland Live! may hurt Hollywood Casino’s take - Eye on Annapolis). If they want to scream fair they need to be consistent in their message. Either embrace free enterprise or don't.

Let's be honest, if a website is called Casino City Times and it's talking about the positive impact of casinos, the information should be taken with a grain of salt. I'm not saying that some of the information may not be true, but I doubt they will let people think that there is negativity involved with casinos.

That is a given. The reality is there is no true objective source on that topic or any other for that matter. Just like with all sources of information, you review and form your position on what is provided and your own personal experience.
