I have been driving SAABs exclusively for 20+ years, but they folded up for the final time in 2011 - caused by GM both times but I digress.
So now it is time to find a replacement and Volvo is at the top of the list. It appears the S60 is slightly smaller than my current sedan and the S90 is slightly larger. I will probably purchase a CPO model due to the considerable cost savings, and apparently many Volvo owners hardly drive their cars, i.e. local 2016 S60 CPO with under 15k miles!
A local Dealer is also listing a low mileage CPO 2018 S90 T5 with AWD on their web page. I don't think such a model was ever offered but I haven't visited the Dealership with my Mechanic's Creeper to confirm or deny.
Please respond with the pluses and minuses of each.
2016 would be the previous generation S60, which is a smaller vehicle, though the current one is slightly larger, though probably still slightly smaller than the SAAB. The nice thing about that generation is that you can get the old Volvo T5 engine with AWD, not the newer engines that are hybrid or smaller turbo/supercharged units.
Both sedans are quite similar, but the S90 tends to be more plush, less sporty/connected to the road. It's a competitor to the Mercedes E-Series and BMW 5-Series, yet is more of a comfort-oriented ride. The S60 is a bit more connected, and has more nimble handling, owing to the smaller size.
With modern Volvo, I exclusively buy AWD, so I do not know how the FWD sedans perform in inclement weather, but the AWD is very good for snow/ice, produced for Volvo by Haldex. Basically, it would come down to wanting the big, plush cruiser, or a slightly more agile mid-size sedan between the S90 and S60. The S60 characteristics are much more similar to SAAB, whereas the S90 would be going towards a Buick/Cadillac/Lexus (non F-series) in terms of comfort.
