My 5.7L HEMI Jeep gets around 15-16 city, and that is based on the calculator, yes, but I have double-checked it numerous times and found it very accurate. The HEMI is a thirsty animal compared to any other motor its size. I can EASILY see a 5.3L getting what he claims.
You must drive very conservatively/smoothly. I've previously owned a Vette and barely cracked 20 on the highway and low teens in town. Similar for my AMG. I'm also in NY Metro so traffic/slow downs are common. But I didn't see much more than 20 even on highway only trips to "north country". I can crack 30 in my heavier, 5 passanger, less aerodynamic, permanent AWD Forester XT. I no longer have the Vette or AMG, more of a P car guy now (993TT).

There is absolutely NO WAY that a corvette got that horrible of a mileage on the highway unless you left it in 2nd gear, or it had a problem, if it was a 1993 or newer. I just cannot see it. My Trans AM (2001, same motor/trans as the 97-04 C5) got 25-27mpg freeway, and was heavier and less aerodynamic than the C5. My C6 was a Z06, and got 26 on the highway, just setting cruise at 75 and cranking the AC and radio. My 1995 LT1 Trans Am (same as C4 corvette, again, heavier/less aero) would get 25mpg freeway on road-trips.

Something was wrong with your 'vette, it was an older model, or you were so far from stock that you shouldn't have brought it up, lol!

993TT is an amazing car. P Cars have always been more $$ than I wanted to spend (ownership costs more than initial...), and now I am into SUV's because of where I am moving to (NWA).

That said, this is why I drive a Jeep and am looking at the Forester soon.

just too small for my needs, darn it, for half the price...
So will have to settle for 17mpg city.

I want to LIVE so I'm thinking Volvo has airbags all over. Right?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, because the Chinese are not actually building the cars, the Swedes are.

I have had Mercedes SUV and a Volvo wagon ( sorry know that is not an SUV). Someone who shall remain nameless in my family....LOL had accidents with both with deer, both were totaled. PTL he was OK in both accidents and the cars were only totaled due to law in State and expensive parts.

People could not believe between insurance, repair people etc how he made it without being hurt. The cars were like tanks and kept my family safe, for that I will always be grateful.

I will and did stick with both companies again, finding a replacement for my Mercedes and same for Volvo. Love the companies, cars and safety aspects. To be honest I have older Mercedes ( many) they are built like tanks, same for the Volvo. I can't speak to the newer models I have heard they are not built like the older.

Both my Mercedes and Volvo's are very safe in winter, rain, sleet etc. as well.

My all-time favorite Volvo's were the 240 wagons. They don't make cars like that anymore! In my city you still see quite a few of them around, still kickin' and looking great!

Class-action lawsuit raises more safety concerns about Subaru:

Quote:
It says customers would not have bought the Subaru vehicles "or would have paid substantially less for them" if they'd known of the defect. Customers also have to "constantly replenish (and pay for) engine oil ... at an unreasonably rapid pace."

It said some customers have paid $8,000 to Subaru dealers to repair the oil problem, and that drivers also face expenses for related problems, such as damage to vehicles' oxygen sensors, catalytic converters and sparkplugs.

The suit also asserts the alleged problem is a safety hazard, because engines potentially could fail "at any time and under any driving condition or speed."

We'll see if the class action lawsuit is allowed to proceed-- here are a few that did for Volvo

Henderson v. Volvo - index

Based on the Subaru forums and Consumer Report's data, the incident rate is extremely low/de minimums for the 2.5L N/A engine. But thanks again for playing.
