Just found stunning thing. Volvo is now owned by a CHINESE car company? That does not even have any cars close enough in size to match Volvos, outside of their smallest model?
Apparently, they will either "insource" Volvos production to China, or "integrate" Volvos componentry into their manufacturing capabilities, and you know what THAT means - Volvo Made in PRC.
Volvo has been Chinese for quite a while now, and yes they're using the models for production in China, currently, the models made for the US Market are still manufactured in Sweden.
As for the car, if they made a model I was interested in and quality hadn't suffered it would make no difference to me if it's made in Sweden or China or anywhere else for that matter.

Someone wants one?
If you are shocked that the Chinese own Volvo.. do a little research and see who owns Jaguar and Land Rover.
Bollywood anyone?
The evidence is in the product. If Chinese ownership of Volvo is an issue, the cars will show it soon enough.
I am not sure Chinese ownership necessarily means all Volvo production will move either. They probaby can build Chinese market Volvo's in China and still have enough demand to build other Volvos for other markets in Europe.
Volvo stopped being Volvo a long time ago. Its more or less a name now.Now they make cars and SUVs that look more or less like everyone else's. They should've stuck to making boxes on wheels.
I have stated my opinion about my Volvo. It was built very well but when you are stalled on the freeway( many times!!) because it won't run, Lumbar seats and stainless steel trim do you no good.

Yup.
And like Jaguar/Land Rover, Volvo operates independently of its overlords. Supposedly anyway. =D
Maybe it's because I'm more attuned to British culture that I appreciate the irony more in Jaguar/LR... I mean, it's the same thing. Volvo got taken over by America, former colony taking over from the mother country, but it just doesn't pack the same punch to me.
Back in the day (1968) I had a 10 yr old Volvo 544. Even a round trip to Alaska one summer could not kill that car. I sold it and wish I had not. All it needed was a 2.4 l turbo engine to be near perfect.
Those 4 cylinder rwd Volvos were great. I think the change to FWD started their decline. Yes the Ford takeover made them much worse.
