I don't know, I just see almost all black dots under the XC90 in Consumer Reports's Reliability rating.
You can read reviews here: http://www.edmunds.com/volvo/xc90/20...s.html?sub=suv

Thank you for all your input.....do not be haters....lol....we looked and looked and looked.....and we ended up at Mercedes Benz and found a PRISTINE Jeep Rubicon with 11k miles, one owner and got a great price on it. This is an 06.....in line six. We checked all of The Technical Service Bulletins on the Volvo XC90 and Toyota Land Cruisers and Four Runners, etc......VERY scary reading. Although I prefer european cars.....for what I want this particular rig for.....hunting, fishing, camping, exploring.....this will work great......and best of all NO TSB reports that we could find....not saying there will not be a Volvo in my future.....but when one is out in the boonies....reliability is most important.....happy travels
I think you are confused ... TSBs are not recalls.
The LC and 4Runners are among the most reliable models ... not sure about the Jeep. It doesn't ride anything like the others on your list, but good luck with the vehicle.
Our most recent Volvo purchase (we've had a few because we love them ) was a 2006 XC70. It's wonderful. We test drove both the xc90 and the xc70 and preferred the xc70 for a few reasons: it drove smoother, we found it to be more comfortable for long road trips, it had more space in the back for our camping gear, better gas mileage, and at that time the xc90's were still a bit new for Volvo so we weren't sure how reliable they were going to be.
I would suggest talking to a mechanic who knows Volvo's. Don't go to a dealership - find a European mechanic sort of place that works on Volvo's and get advice from them. We love our Volvo mechanic and they have always had wonderful advice regarding which models/years to avoid and which to look for.
The XC60's are supposed to be really nice, though we haven't tested one yet.
I agree (as usual) with you about the XC70 versus XC90. My next vehicle purchase I'm undecided between another Volvo (I have an excellent '97 850--great car and extremely reliable) and possibly a newer Subaru or even a CR-V, but I just keep coming back to the Volvos. Maybe a V50? V70? XC70? They're all very nice cars.
For OP, the XC90s have been a bit more unreliable as far as I know, according to anecdotes and Consumer Reports. The 5 cylinder engine is the best engine according to a Volvo mechanic I know, and you definitely want to avoid the Yamaha-built V8's--very unreliable. Probably good vehicles if they were well cared for, later model years, and NOT V8 powered.

Actually, TSB's are a great way to gauge the number of "fixes" required to correct problems. Not all TSB's are for problems, but most are.
