I would think you can find a place for $500-$600 per month, but these are very small towns and you really need to just kind of drive around and look for signs for rent. Also, if you need to work, don't come here, as the job market in southwest VA has really had the bottom fall out since the recession and it isn't getting better.

We are very interested in a property in Saltville . I want land a nice Garden spot and Honey Bees .Don't want a hopping Town just to be grounded . It will be a advantage that I do have Nursing Experience and my husband as a Hobby builds Wooden Canoes .We hope to retire there . I also make Herbal Remedies and Salves . I love Fishing and Old School way of life. We will be coming from NC and feel this is where we want to be .Good Neighbors would be a Bonus .Think we would fit in ?

You should be fine. There are some medical facilities in the area, and many of the nursing homes are always hiring CNAs/LPNs. Obviously, you'll want to get a job before you move if possible, or have quite a bit of money to sustain you for six months or so.
