@ CLOVEN: Thank you for the picture! At first glance, I though you were standing in the Hannaford supermarket parking lot on US Route 5!

Yes, I've walked into Hisdale before. Granted, I didn't get past Wantastiquet Mountain (since I don't drive!). The furthest I got was the eerily quiet plaza that once had a Walmart. All it has now is a liquor store and a Game Stop and that's it.

That's pretty much how it looks around here now. A good 2/3 of the snow we picked up last Saturday is now gone. Much of central Connecticut was on the northern fringe of that huge snowstorm.

Pictures taken this afternoon (Feb. 2, 2016) in Brattleboro VT, displaying current state of snow on ground.
Roads are clear/clean, sidewalks are puddled, yards are mud & old leaves with mounds of snow & grit.
Considering the number of days above 32 degrees here this season, I'm surprised this much snow is left.

On the subject of Brattleboro, I fell and slid down the hill behind the Retreat yesterday. Came up with a few scrapes, ice burned hands, and a very muddy wardrobe. Mud season is upon us before winter even dealt one blow!

I'm almost certain I've seen that spot in the second picture:

Was it taken in that park at the north edge of downtown, just off of US Route 5?

Some sad pictures but pretty much the case all over New England. My snow cover I had for 9 days is now just patchy with piles everywhere. Rain today more should be gone.

But wait ........ we start over now.

Check your forecasts. I think all of us are involved with this one because it's not just a coastal storm (which VT usually misses out on), it's a Clipper and a Coastal so you have 2 sources of snow.

While I think VT wont be inside the heavier totals, you guys should get some snow. Still early. Lets see.

I am moving to VT in July and was wondering if it is normal for the snow to start melting this early? I was told January was the coldest month and I haven't really seen any cold weather reports.

Nope. Not normal. This has definitely not been a normal winter by any stretch of the imagination. Last year we were dealing with several week long stretches of high temps below zero; I think we've had two nights with negative temps this whole season (so far).

No, it has been one of the warmest winter seasons in recorded history for all of Northern New England, pretty much unprecedented. Terrible news economically for those more dependent on Winter actually acting like Winter.

Agreed, a lot of local businesses around here are suffering. Christmas week was a total bust, luckily MLK weekend was okay, hopefully we get some snow next week to save President's week. That's the last winter moneymaker for a lot of these folks.
