In Burlington we had a dusting, but itwon't last past this afternoon. Malletts Bay has the shoreline free of ice. After today temps in this area are back in the 40's and by the end of the weekend to Monday the forecast is near 60 degrees.

Nice blustery day with NW winds making it feel like 20s/30s and Lake Effect snows. Temps stayed below normal today. In fact the High temp was just above what the normal low is.

Tonight with some good radiational cooling should drop to teens/20s. Couple more days then we get back to seasonable temps.

Bookmark these 2 links ..I just came across this site from IEM and it's phenominal! Real time High/Low chart.

I am wondering when the last time there usually is significant snowfall in the Green mountains? Last year around April 10 or so , it snowed a solid 2 feet above ~3000 ft. The last dusting that visibly "coated" the mountain I saw was May 11.

I'm looking more for something that'd actually add to the snowpack

Scroll down to June 1842. A most unusual and extreme occurrence.

From this mornings weather forecast, the temps are going to be average (around 50 degrees) for the next few days and then above average temps by the end of the weekend as predicted earlier in the week. We will be mid 50's by Sunday and then in the high 50's to 60's mid week. As far as snow, there is nothing the local stations are predicting. There could be a dusting in the higher elevations tonight, but that should be it for a while. They are actually calling for rain by Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. This should hold true for the mountains as well. The statewide low temps are supposed to remain above freezing even at night. Around Burlington the lows will be in the mid 40's while the lows for the rest of the state are predicted in the mid to high 30's.

April 6, 2013

Another chilly morning .. Wind chills into the teens and single digits in Vermont. Temps in the 20s and tens in higher elevation spots.

Purple shades are teens, light blues are 20s, blues are 30s.
Normal low is now 31 for BTV.

6 night in a row the temp has been below normal.
Out of the last 23 days, only 7 have had above normal High temps.

Like 68vette said, we'll moderate now and get to seasonable temps... I've been telling everyone to be careful planting this year beacause these are patterns we can easily get a late frost.

I think we'll see more warm days than cold days after this weekend now.

Cool look at where the snow is from Satellite.

NWS Albany:
https://www.facebook.com/US.National...ice.Albany.gov

"Several questions about the previous image we posted, as this was taken with our GOES satellite. However, a much better image from our polar orbiters is now available!"

"A sunny sky today offers an opportunity to see more ground details in the hi-res visible imagery. This image (where it appears to be more white) shows where the snow remains as the sun reflects off the snow cover. As warmer temperatures and the chance for rain increasing over the next several days, expectations are for the snow to diminish and a gradual increase the water levels in area streams and rivers"

Thanks for sharing that nifty map image here on C-D.
Also, appreciate that you included the link so I could find NWS FB page (source of picture).

There's no more snow here (down in the SE valley), but it lingers up in the mountains (central spine of state).
It's not as warm as it was yesterday, but the sun is nice today.

Well... Euro has consistantly shown snow for New England on Friday night.

First let me post what NWS thinks... (or course, I dont blame them for being conservative this late in the game)

NWS Burlington: National Weather Service Text Product Display

FRI/FRI NIGHT...CLOUDY AND TRENDING COOLER WITH BEST CHANCES OF
SHOWERS/LIGHT RAIN OVER CENTRAL/SOUTHERN COUNTIES AS FRONT SAGS
SOUTH. SOME LIGHT SNOW/SNOW SHOWERS POSSIBLE FRI NIGHT IN THE NRN
MTNS
. HIGHS 45 TO 55 AND LOWS UPPER 20S TO MID 30S.

NWS Gray Maine: National Weather Service Text Product Display

THE ECMWF HAS MAINTAINED ITS CONSISTENT SCENARIO OF KEEPING THE FRONT
SOUTH OF THE REGION... KEEPING NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND IN A COLDER
PATTERN.

GIVEN THE CONSISTENCY OF THE ECMWF... HPC (OR WPC IF YOU
PREFER) PREFERENCE FOR THE ECMWF... AND THE SENSE THAT THE GFS IS
TRENDING TOWARD THE ECMWF SOLUTION... HAVE DECIDED TO GO ALMOST
COMPLETELY WITH THE ECMWF SCENARIO FOR THIS FORECAST FROM
WEDNESDAY ONWARD.

-----------------

Now... In short.. GFS is warm (but trending towards Euro) Euro is colder.

2 reasons I am going with the Euro..
1. It's been consistantly showing a cooler pattern AND snow for New England.
2. Warm fronts have a hard time making it northwards this time of year

Sooooo. Not that I believe the amounts shown here, but there could be a nice little snow event Friday night. We'll see.

Latest Euro12z Snow totals.
