I'm going to Europe for three weeks for a cross cultural class and we're going to be in London for three days. Any suggestions if we wanted to wander out on our own? Where to avoid and so on. Thanks.

I know its stereotypical, but really watch out crossing the streets, especially if you have had a few pints.

Ain't that the truth! We just got back from London. The first day there, my wife nearly was hit crossing the street. It is quite confusing because we are used to cars driving on the right hand side of the road in the USA. So your concept of timing and spacing, and the way you automatically survey the oncoming traffic is all backwards.

They actually post directions at most intersections on the pavement telling you which way to look for oncoming traffic. You definitely need to heed these signs, because they don't yield to pedestrians in London! (or "give way" as they say in the UK)

The big museums are nearby at South Kensington - they are all fantastic, and you could spend a day in each one, they are so enormous.

My favourite is the V&A Victoria and Albert Museum
closely followed by the Natural History Natural History Museum, then the Science Museum Science Museum

Hyde Park, Albert Hall and Memorial, plus of course Harrods, are all nearby too.

If you want more museums British Museum - Welcome to the British Museum is gorgeous too.

Across town, John Soane's house is unmissable The Sir John Soane's Museum Web Page and is in a great part of very Dickensian London for walking around.

Have fun!

PS I want to go to Alaska!!!!!

These are some great sites! This will be my first time across the pond, and it won't be my last. We get to London after 20+ hours of flying from Alaska early on May 7th, no sleep after that. Off the jet and to the hotel and out and on the town. I can't wait!
