Well, that was unsatisfying.

Apparently midway through the season the writers got word that they were going to get picked up for a second season, so they stopped reading the book and just started making cr@p up. In the book, Junior was one seriously messed up individual. The TV writers seem intent on making Big Jim the singular bad guy.

Sadly, the people of Chester's Mill may never get out from under the dome, as the dome is being powered not by an egg, but by thousands of Nielsen boxes.

One thing I noticed...at the end there was an exterior shot of the dome, surrounded by attractive countryside. But, Duh, the attractive countryside was destroyed by the bomb.

I don't see Junior as dumb, but highly conflicted. I think its all in his relationship with his father. He has never really been seen with much regard, and Big Jim was too busy scheming to see much of his son. Junior is scewed, certainly, but I think he wants so much to believe in his father. This makes him the one who will send the tale to darkness or light.

Now Linda, the problem with her is she just believes what she's told and hasn't an ounce of judgement in her.

It never was intended to mirror the book, but I think they had a one summer season long story and then came the second season. I remember back when the commander was replaced by a different actor on Babylon 5 by the studio with a season of scripts written just before shooting. They were supposed to be the big guests at this convention, and nobody from the show came. The writers were furiously rewriting so things would be ready for shooting. When you're mid season and you have to revamp your whole story I bet it was a struggle to redo all that was planned.

I wonder if they'll get into whatever this is that the Dome is there to protect them from, and maybe they might feel a little more grateful.

The one thing which would fix that would be time. While they are in this darkness, are they percieving time differenty? When was the last time they heard ANYTHING from the outside post bomb? Was the darkness in part to shield whatever happened from view?

Should be most interesting.

I've been looking back. Not too many shots of outside the dome, but in the episode where the four touch it and see the killing of Big Jim, there are already trees and lots of green. I'm going to work forward from the one where the bomb dropped and see when it changed. Wonder if it has influence outside the dome itself?

The TV show departed from the book on episode 1. It never stuck to the book very closely at all.

On the one hand, this didn't bother me, because I didn't like the book very much. The book was too rigidly allegorical and thus the characters weren't characters so much as 1 dimensional archetypes. I applauded the TV series' attempt to give the characters more depth.

On the other hand, while the TV show gets an A for effort, I'd give it a solid D+ for execution. The writing is just plain bad. It's like a diet version of LOST, with new and improved aspartame. The only reason at all I might keep watching is Dean Norris, who is fantastic in everything he's in, and Rachelle Lefevre, who is very easy on the eyes. I just wish the writers would give them something to work with.

You know I was also wondering why they haven't done a "family/friends day" again? It seemed like a good idea. I keep forgetting Linda is engaged lol I also noticed the outside shot but didnt think anything of it cus I was trying to think about everything else. I hope season 2 brings us more answers and that big jim gets uncovered by the town.

I have to wonder if something happened *to* the outside world. Clearly, when the four connected to the egg see Big Jim die, the outside is green again. I wonder if their sense of *time* inside the dome is also altered.

I would think the authorities would rather tell the public the bomb destroyed the Dome and everyone inside and its a no gozone than have to say it failed and the problems coming from that.
