Thanks to Jaxson , I just finished watching it, and will watch it again. Also, thinking of picking up the book just so I can compare and contrast the two.
You're welcome & I picking up the book at the library Friday.
You're not the only one, I've been saying I really liked the book.
I didn't hate the book. I just thought it was kinda ... meh. My big problems with it:
First of all, it is so obviously allegorical. Big Jim almost drips Dick Cheney. Whether I agree with the author's point or not, I really detest allegory of any sort.
The heroes I liked, but the villains were so one-dimensional. Again, probably because King had an axe to grind. His villains in the book weren't really characters so much as dialogue for plot points. The bad guys go from general town miscreants to absolute EVIL overnight. I didn't buy it.
And the book is just too freakin' long. I love long books when the length is justified. But in UtD, King would spend pages and pages and pages developing a character only to kill them and have all those pages affect the story in no way whatsoever. His editor needed to be a bit more generous with the red pen on this one.
I too am looking forward to it. It will be interesting seeing the layers of civilization peal back slowly or maybe not so slowly. And people taking in that they are perhaps under the lens of a microscope, like lab rats. I love the post apoc genre and this is a close cousin so I'll give it every chance.
I think I'll wait on the book so I won't try to compare.
The stuff you spread on toast instead of butter or the possibility it might be watchable?
Those of you thinking of reading the book while the series is on going - I'd suggest waiting. It could make it confusing to do at the same time. Unless of course you think you can read it before epi 2.. I just wouldn't mix them.
Looks like an interesting show.
We'll watch and see. pilot was good.
