Doug Hucker, CEO of the American Gem and Trade Association had one message for the Tucson City council today. Get moving, or the gem show will.

"The commitment we need to have is no longer studies, plans, drawings, promises, good intentions. We need specific progress on putting that hotel up," Hucker said.
Gem Show will leave Tucson if city doesn't build convention center hotel (http://www.kgun9.com/global/story.asp?s=11270605 - broken link)

I wonder what our illustrious leaders will do!?

Probably hire a 100.00 an hour consultant to do a study and come up with a plan, do some drawings on overtime, and promise to get it done sometime, not sure when though, right after Rio Nuevo I think. They mean well , so we shouldn't judge them.

They'll do a study alright. But it's gonna be costing well north of a couple a hundred grand. And like all very expensive studies, they fit perfectly in a file cabinet drawer, never to be seen again.

If it's anything like keeping Spring Training in Tucson, nothing. They wait until the barn door has hit them in the butt on their way out before they realize they've lost it all. They're masters of indecisiveness, inaction, and incompetence.

BTW, my dentist wants to run for mayor of OV in 2010. I wonder if all city employees will get free root canals?
