Is it growing each year?

Does anyone here go to the Gem Show?

Just curious, since the craiglist housing is already showing a little demand for housing for people attending the Gem Show.

I usually go to at least a few shows each year but mainly just to people watch and the hell of it . . . rarely do I buy anything except for a few beers and lunch. It definitely draws thousands of people from all over the world.

According to a couple of "expert" friends, there are many great values but there are also many rip-offs and scams so one must be very careful.

I wouldn't go to the hotels unless I specifically look for something. I usually go to the Electric park - get some fresh air, look at stuff, and possibly buy something. Of course, the weather normally sucks - windy and/or rainy. Why they chose to have the show during one of the worst months in Tucson beats me...

The hotels go nuts during the show. My office used to be across the street from a hotel and when the rates doubled and tripled we knew the Gem Show started!

I-10 Is still going to be messed up, and is going to be until 2010. Be sure to stick to the Frontage Rd, and don't miss the exits at Ruthrauff Rd and 6th Ave.

If anyone needs a place to stay for the gem show or any time, take a look at our house for rent: Tucson vacation house rental - Elegant, New Custom Home in One of A Kind Neighborhood. We are Tucson residents who enjoy the gem show on the light level of browsing and a few small, fun, purchases.

"GOUGE and RUN" is shameful. If it is happening, there needs to be an investigation.

It will be interesting to see how much money the Gem Show is going to be pumped into the Tucson economy. As we all know, the economy is DEEP into the hole, and a lot of people are holding onto their wallets tightly.

Very true, ihatetucson... doesn't sound like there'll be much profit for the gouge & run crowd... or even the bait and switch peeps...
