"Non-scorching" and hot are relative terms, Famlife.

Except for the Monsoon Season during July and August, when the temperature hovers around 100 Degrees, our humidity is usually in the low teens and often in single digits so the heat is much more bearable than lower temperatures in other parts of the country.

If you prefer lower temperatures during the Summer months, head to a higher elevation but remember, that also equates to lower temperatures during the Winter months.

We have land in the J-Six area 40 minutes SE of Tucson (10 minutes west of Benson), just 4 minutes from I-10. Because land in the area is around 4,200 feet (as opposed to Tucsons' 2,400 feet) our summer highs are much more moderate. June highs average 93, July highs average 91 and August highs average 88 (from 5 years worth of readings in the area). December & January highs are 60, with overnight lows averaging in the mid-upper 30's.

Northern Arizona (about 4 hours) is much cooler, as is San Diego (about 6 hours). I realise it isn't 2 hours but it isn't much farther and they are significantly cooler.

I come from Dallas and Oklahoma City. These cities get to 105 or so regularly and up to 115 on rarer occasions. They are much more humid than Tuscon, though, I have heard that doesn't actually make much difference.

Interestingly, though Tuscon is 10-15 degrees hotter, Tuscon is closer to relief than Dallas is. If you drive 4-6 hours from Tucson you can get out in a significatly cooler place like San Diego, or Flagstaff. Wheras in Dallas, you could drive 8-12 hours any direction and still be in 95-100 degree heat.

Mount Lemmon just drive up until you feel cool enough.
Sierra Vista usually ten degrees cooler because you are at 4600 ft
Actually there are plenty of places

Are you wanting to live where it's cooler than Tucson, or just visit when it's 100 degrees here? Mt. Lemon is the place to visit or stay for a while to escape the heat, but if you want to live where it's cooler, that's just about anywhere north of the Mason-Dixon line in summer.

I agree with Ken, my in-laws used to live out in this area in Dragoon. I find the whole Texas Canyon area out east of Benson a quite scenic area without the "scorching" heat.

Oh yeah, that whole area is VERY scenic. Besides the amazing rock formations of the Texas Canyon area itself, the views coming down the slope from the Whetstone interchange into Benson (ie looking across the vast San Pedro Valley towards the Dragoons) is pretty stunning. You can see FOREVER.
