Does it need to have 2 doors? The 2011 Ford Fiesta will be on sale this summer with more power, features, and fuel efficiency than the Yaris. It is only offered with four doors in North America, however.

If you can't wait for the Fiesta, how about the Fit? Or a VW GTI / TDI?
The TDI will get superior gas mileage to anything (including the Prius) you can buy, if you drive a lot of highways and not stuck in traffic that is. If you live in a parking lot like LA, then it may not be the best for you. But those cars are legendary reliable.
well, 2010 Focus comes with two doors? but i'm sure you have thought of that :/
how much is that little Yaris? $15K i am guessing? hopefully a bit lower though. so a small two door is what you're looking at, i suppose. but not in the price range of a mini cooper or something like that? i like that new Volvo two door, too. the small one, i mean
a used Mustang has two doors and can be had for around 15 grand or under. and an Acura RSX can be had. used, of course. but that would make a great commuter car and have less then 30,000m. it should be as much as a couple grand under 15K, too. and it has two doors
more exciting then a Yaris, i say. might even get leather seats. example with just over 12,000m
if it has to be a B-segment vehicle, i would definitely hold off on purchasing until you can check out the Fiesta in person. if you can go a bit bigger, i would check out the Focus. 2011 will be a major redesign, but if you're more looking at cost, it should make for excellent deals on the 2010 models soon.
Fiesta will be a great car. Or a VW Golf, Subaru Impreza, or a Scion xB. Lots of better cars than a Yaris. Frankly, when you get below a certain price point (~$14k), you're always better off getting a slightly used larger car, like a Corolla vs a Yaris or a Civic vs a Fit.

That Acura is a nice little car (picturing it in something other than silver). I might check it out, assuming that they still make that model. *sigh*

Alas, the RSX is no longer made. Acura's SUVs are the closest to to a hatch in the current line: RDX, MDX, ZDX.
