I'm going to Toronto next month to spend a few days visiting family and friends. I'd like to get an inexpensive tracfone to use while I'm there.

What can I expect to pay, and what will I get for my money?

Where should I go to get one?

might be cheaper to stick with your US carrier.. (just make sure not to use data features if you have a smartphone. the data roaming adds up real fast even with below discount)
For example AT&T has an option to turn on a Canada package that gives you slightly less expensive minutes while in canada. then you turn that package off when you return. http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/in...#canada-mexico 2 choices.. "AT&T Canada add-on to voice plan" and "AT&T® Nation with CanadaSM - rate plans"

I point in that direction because to go prepaid in canada you'll have to buy a phone. The major carriers are Bell and Rogers and both have prepaid options.
Bell Mobility - Prepaid Rate Plans

7-11 offers this Prepaid Cell Phones | No Contract Phones | SpeakOut? 7-Eleven® Canada

It looks like 7-11 requires Canadian residency.

Here in the States, I have Verizon.
