One of my hobbies is taking pictures of urban decay. For some reason, I find it beautiful, in a raw and gritty way. On my way down to Lexington, KY, for a business trip, I noticed a few homes, 2-4, maximum, all in a row, that, from 1-75, looked have been sitting vacant for some time, basically collapsed, and they were a great photo opportunity. One of the houses seemed to be painted in a Robins-Egg blue. They weren't big, just typical post-war bungalows, or maybe shotgun-style homes, it seemed. These homes weren't too far from the interstate, just west of it, possibly as little as 500 feet west of the interstate. So, naturally, on my way back home, I got off at a nearby exit, and tried to find the homes. No luck. Is anyone who is from Toledo, or knows the area, familiar with these homes? If so, where are they?

I know this may sound a bit tedious, but if you know the general vicinity in which they were located, you could hop onto Google maps, switch to Street View, and then move along the route you took until you see them. Or maybe use Bing Maps set to Birdseye View and do it that way.

North of downtown or South of downtown? The most likely place to see residential urban decay from i-75 is in the area surrounded by Broadway, South Ave, and I-75.

Theres a guy on youtube from Toledo who goes around the city and videotapes areas that has been devastated by the economy. He went to Southwyck Mall, Woodville Mall, Northtowne Mall (which is right off I-75 on the Michigan border). He also videotaped the Marina District, and some of Toledo's decayed neighborhoods. If your interested, maybe you could check out some of the video's where he actually mentions their addresses and google them next time you head back this way and take pictures.... I personally never really understood taking pictures of blight, maybe because Ive always been around it. I myself like to take pictures of mansions being I probably will never live in one, but I always get nosey neighbors who look at me strange. I just searched his name and its EconCat88.

It is not that hard to find, you can find loads of abandoned houses off of hawley if you just turn down walbridge ave and then just drive around in that neighborhood for a while. There are a whole bunch in east toledo too but I am not sure where because I rarely go over there.

They said they caught the arsonist... then the arson kept on and they said this time they really caught the arsonist... and the fires slowed down... but they still keep popping up. basically, you are right... if their isnt a burnt out building today in some parts of the Old South End... try back tomorrow.

I checked out his videos on the Woodville mall. He was blaming Larry Dillon for the demise of the mall or something like that.

Really you can't blame Larry Dillon for anything but the demise of Larry Dillon... what ever happened with the unpaid taxes on Levis Commons?
