I'm looking to buy a house or 2 in what's technically SE (or East) Toledo, but I'm looking for a blue-collar area that isn't gang- and/or crime-infested. Been to OH a few times, but never Toledo. I've read the other threads on here, and they all seem to say anything between the Maumee River and I-280 is no good. Is this true? I have a sister living in the Delence Street area, and she says it's fine, but I'm not trying to get shot, etc. What do you guys think? Am I alright in this area, or should I look elsewhere?

I know people that live on the east side and have no problems. The east side isn't pretty and can smell bad due to the refinery. I would stay away from the central city and the north end. The further west you go, the better it gets and the more expensive it gets too. Oregon isn't too bad and it's right next to the east side.

Right on regarding the refinery...i feel sorry for the people that have to smell that all the time. The nicest parts of east toledo are the ones closest to Oregon I think. Oregon is a great little town, VERY low crime, good schools, etc. but the price jumps incredibly from East Toledo. East Toledo is good for rental properties tho if you want to buy properties. I know several people that own 2 or more houses in east toledo and they never have had any problems thusfar.

Agree on the refinery, central, and north end.

I would say EAST of I-280 is fine, and west of Secor Rd is fine. Holland, Maumee, Perrysburg are all good areas too.
