brownsville is nearing completion of the expansion of FM 511, essentially turned it into a freeway. the east loop section should start construction pretty soon... the new rail bridge is starting construction as well.

this thread is now a mcallen vs brownsville thread. ;P
Yeah, they haven't done much on the freeway yet. It's way in the future, most of the freeway work that has been done was around Harlingen, widening the 83 freeway. They are widening the main highway to Hidalgo/Reynosa along tenth, and they have just opened a new bridge (Andulzusa) to Mexico giving Mission residents easier access to Mexico. And there is alot of frontage road work alongside the freeway near Palmview and that area. They are doing something along the canal and greenbelt that runs alongside Bicentennial Blvd. I think I read in the paper that they are going to cover the canal and the beltway will run through that area.

There was an article in the Monitor just the other day stating otherwise. Tax receipts in Hidalgo County have been the lowest in years.

There is no comparison. McAllen is a regional hub and a gateway to the US from Mexico. SA is the 7th largest city in the country and a national tourist destination.

There is nothing better about McAllen over San Antonio.
