Can anyone give me any info on this area? We are looking ot move here from Chicago. Hubby will be working in Bossier City, LA, but I refuse to move to that state. LOL

We have 2 boys, ages 3 & 5, so we are looking for good school and a safe neighborhood that is good to raise children.

I will become a SAHM upon our move and would like to get involved with parenting groups and/or school things.

We are not religious, but have no problem with religion. We just won't be involved with any churches.

For those who live there, do you think we'd be a good fit there?

What is the housing like? Prices? Good neighborhood with good school? Things to do with the kids?

A lot of questions, I know! LOL

Thanks!

I don't know much about Marshall, but I can say that there is a wonderful Christmas festival - they light the courthouse square and have outdoor ice skating. It would be fun for your kids.

I was waiting to reply. Maybe someone will respond with more information than I have. I usually have more to say than this or I don't respond. Anyway, Marshall is 60 miles East of Tyler where I live. It's a town, of 25,000, high number of minorities. Has a very good 4A football team, been there for football games. I would hope they have private schools, maybe, better education there. A southern town as most of this part of Texas is, not so much Western or even Southwest, yet it is Texas not La. Very little population change in many decades. Again, I hope someone else responds as to what your children would enjoy, I'm sure much WOULD center around church activities, again Deep South heritage. I really don't know or would guess as what you would think about the area. Good luck on your move. Welcome. !! Oh, housing prices would be very resonable for you, 150,000 -200,000 would definitely get you a very nice house.

Keep looking.

Elsewhere.

School digger rates Marshall as 854th (of 964 cities) in Texas.

That is pretty low in a state that is pretty low.

Hit schooldigger.com, click Texas on the map, and search All Schools by City.

It is rare to see a city that measures this brain dead.

You have to be very careful with selecting school districts down here. As the saying goes -- Stupid is as Stupid does. And we have and does LOTS of Stoopit down here.

Hallsville is just a little further west. Might be worth looking into.

Thanks for the info! We are looking into hallsville as well as other outlying towns. I'm interested in being close to medical care and good schools. Those are the two top priorities.

If anyone has any info on other towns to the west of Marshall, I'd be very interested. We just need to be within 1 hour drive of Bossier City for DH's job.

Hallsville has slightly better schools but you might look at Carthage as well.

Maybe consider Longview and private school?

If not, Hudson Pep in Longview has good numbers.

Though I prefer Longview or Tyler ... I wouldn't go any further west than the east side of Hallsville, would be a long trip to and from work in Bossier.

I-20 is not always fluid west of Hallsville, and school zones get you on Highway 80.
