Last weekend, I took a drive down to Marshall, and just had to stop by the pottery place. Marshall Pottery is an old favorite place of mine. I enjoy seeing the hundreds of pottery pieces and watching the potter at work.

The last time I stopped by was in 2004. I was shocked to see how much the place had changed. The parking lot used to be full, but only a few cars were in the lot when I pulled in.

The store appeared to have downsized greatly. I seem to recall a larger entrance area with checkout lanes. Now, there was just one desk with a lady to check you out. We toured the whole area within 15 minutes, but at least we still got to see the potter at work.

Has the recession killed Marshall Pottery??

Could be the proliferation of pottery stores selling "Made in Mexico -or- China" pottery. Hard to compete against that.

My bet is on China--it's rare to find anything made elsewhere these days.

yes--we went through there on our way to Jefferson on a girls'-weekend
it was sad--I remember how it used to be -- we lived in Shreveport for several years in the early 80s--it was a great place to visit/shop

Sad to see, I went to elementary school with the then owner's grandson and remember Mr. Ellis coming and giving a show and tell talk at the school about how they got ideas for the pottery design etc.
