Hi there,
I'm planning my drive from NY to Austin and the Texarkana, TX area looks like a good spot for us to stop for our last night and I was wondering if someone could give me a little info about the area.

My mom and I will be driving along 30 W and are looking for a good safe place to get some dinner and sleep overnight. I don't mind spending a little extra on a hotel for a good nights sleep and piece of mind. Safety is my main concern. Do you think Texarkana is a good place to stop for the night? If so, any suggestions on hotels and restaurants close to the highway? I'm usually a Marriott person and I see there is a Courtyard Marriot pretty close off the highway so was thinking about staying there.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!! :-)

You'll be fine staying in Texarkana. I live too close to make it an overnight stop, but we often stop there for meals. There are lots of decent hotels and plenty of restaurants. It's the biggest city in that area, and you'd have to drive an hour either direction to find somewhere similar-sized.

When in deep NE TX (Carthage, Texarkana, etc) or the entire state of Arkansas, it is highly recommended you bring some "Neat-seat" covers with you in case you need to make a pit stop. You also need to spend a little extra on a good hotel. And ask to see the rooms there first before committing. Speaking from multiple experiences. I learned the hard way what $60/night gets you for a hotel in that region. Levels of hygiene here can be much like some parts of the CA Central Valley... downright filthy.

Thumbs up Texarkana a great place to stay!

Texarkana is a great place to stay overnight. It would be on the top 20 list of where I would recomend you to stay. If you want nice clubs, resturaunts, and shopping centers this is probably the place you would want to be. If you do stay there I would recomend the Central Mall to go shopping although thats the only mall you will be surprised, and I do recomend the Marriot Hotel to stay.

Texarkana is a fine overnight stop. Several major chain motels to choose from, relatively safe, clean, and friendly people. Not much else to see and do around there though. As with anywhere, just use common sense and be aware of your surroundings.

No. Do not stop there. There is nothing to see. Stop in Hot Springs Arkansas, a much better place. It's scenic and in the Quachita mountains. The main hotel in town is inexepensive and has a great spa with natural hot spring running through the pool and plumbing. And next to a National Park

I have driven through Texarkana in the past many times and spent the night several times, but that was before a lot of the hotels/restaurants popped up on the Texas side of the state line and I-30. I do remember Bryce's Cafeteria being there, off of I-30 and it was great Southern food.

Hot Springs is a great city for a vacation, overnight stop, but isn't it 20-30 miles north of I-30?

According to the Texarkana detailed data report on this website, it has a really high crime rate. Just saying.

Considering this thread was made back in January, I'm sure the thread starter had a nice stay in Texarkana.
