I am clearly agreeing that Houstoin is growing faster than DFW by a smidgit.I then stated that houston needs to grow alot faster than DFW if it plans to surpass it....meaning alot faster than it currently is....The invisible fact thats not being reared in this comparison is that DFW already has 600,000 more people than the Houston area...So with DFW growing just as fast as Houston+ the 600,000 population cushion It make it hard to see Houston catching Us anytime soon........Sorry.

Your population my be larger but your GDP is lagging for a metro its size. Also it is not a 600,00 difference anymore its a 424,000 difference..still high, but your number was inflated.

Houston-Sugarland-Baytown = 384,630 (Billion)

Dallas-Arlington-Ft. Worth= 374,081 (Billion)

Also DFW population may be growing but Houston economy is growing faster. I'm not saying the Houston will out grow DFW in population but clearly Houston is the place to do business in Texas.

I've noticed the pro-Houston coalition becoming increasingly provincial lately.

Do we underestimate Houston?s financial prowess? - Houston Business Journal

Quote:
Brains categorize, so if you’re like me, the thought of Houston usually calls up the word “energy.”
When I think of Austin, it’s startups and gizmos. Dallas, financial institutions.
But Barron’s Magazine recent ranking of Texas’ top financial advisers in 2012 threw a curve ball at my preconceptions about Houston and Dallas. Turns out, the city has more than its fair share of the state’s best financial advisers. Forty-four of Texas’ top 75 financial advisers came from Houston and the Woodlands in 2011, beating Dallas’ 23, according to Barron’s.

Houston 44
Dallas 23

Oil won't be big business forever. I hope the economy is diversifying down there.

I wish we could get a GDP breakdown. Not selling Houston short, because it has a powerhouse economy, but I am sure a large percentage of the GDP would be related to energy. Energy and oil is a HUGE moneymaker
