Perhaps because the difference between the two isnt really that great. Simply that people from Houston love to hate Dallas and people from Dallas love to hate Houston. It seems thats what its all about. They arent all that different. I will say that Dallas personally reminds me more of Atlanta than Houston, but its still not that different from Houston.

Smile OK lets see if we can clarify this a little

I would like to play a game where One person mentions an "area of town" or a "thing to do" or natural feature or cultural or economic type thing and see if the other city can match it or beat it.

OK I will start with Houstons Discovery Green Park?? What answer does Dallas have for that??

Heck, even Veterans Memorial or Scarsdale (Houston's other two & much smaller suburban style Vietnamese enclaves) are better than Arlington.

Houston has a MUCH larger Chinese & Vietnamese presence than D/FW. The only thing Dallas wins on for Asian population is its large Korean population, & even then they don't live in Dallas they live in the burbs & Houston also has its own K-town even though its Korean population is almost half of D/FW's.
Houston is more international than DFW, no doubt. However the overall foreign born Asian population between the two isnt really that great. Theres about 15,000 more Asians in Houston vs. Dallas. Also, even though the Houston area definately does have more Vietnamese than Dallas, DFW still has the 4th largest Vietnamese community in the country. Thats nothing to sneeze at.

Vietnamese American Population

As for the diversity issue, I had always thought Houston was and still think it is more diverse. However someone might want to explain why Dallas ended up on the following list and Houston didnt. Of the major cities in the US, on NYC, Honolulu, Dallas, Chicago and San Jose, CA made it. Probably because they are measureing cities and not MSA?

https://www.city-data.com/top35.html

Also I came across a chart of demographic trends in the Houston and DFW areas. That you guys might be interested in. It points out that DFW's Asian and white popualtions are growing faster, and Houstons Black community and Latino community are growing faster. However it omits Kaufman county from the DFW MSA.

Swing State Project: Demographic Sea Change in Texas

Another thing I will say is that Houston definatley feels more Texas to me than Dallas. Houston feels like a machismo city where Dallas to me feels downright affeminate to me.

Considering the DFW area has about 600K more people than Houston, I think that's good. And the DFW area definitely feels more "Texas". Easily. Houston is kind of isolated from the rest of the state and has its own feel to it.

I'll try to find the 2006 numbers as soon as I can:

Not to me it doesnt. I didnt grow up in Texas, I moved here. I visited Dallas and Houston extensively. And if were comparing cities and not MSA's Houston definately feels more Texas and what imagined Texas to be than Dallas. Fort Worth is a different story.

I've lived in both and that's how I feel. You're actually the first person I've heard say that Houston feels more "Texas" than Dallas.

It is a matter of opinion, but Im definatley not the first person. Ive seen several people on this board say the same thing. My old man works in Houston and he says the same thing. So Im sure people think both cities are more Texas.
